What is the Company Verification procedure?
- We verify your company’s details by checking the information and supporting documentation you submit, such as:
- The business license, VAT/TAX certificate or GST certificate of the company.
- An electricity bill showing the company name and address
- A business card or company identity card of the contact person.
- Once your company details are verified, your bookings can get confirmed so your goods can be loaded onto our vessels and transported to their destinations.
How do I submit documents for company verification?
- When Global Link Solutions starts verifying your company, you will get an email from the Registration team (registration@globallinks.co.za). To get verified, please reply to that email with the requested information and documents within 24 hours.
Can I change the company name for my customer profile?
- If you need to make a change to your company profile, please contact admin@globallinks.co.za. In your subject line please include your account number.
- An updated business license, VAT/TAX certificate or GST certificate of the company will need to be provided.

- Each quote has different validity — the starting and ending date will be shown on the quote.
My quote has expired, where do I get a new quote for shipping my goods?
- If the quote has expired, please reach out to your sales representative and request them to provide an updated quote.
I want to get my service contract revised, can you help?
- If the contract validity has expired, please reach out to your sales representative and request them to extend the validity of the contract

What does FEU and FFU mean?
FEU and FFE are both abbreviations of ‘forty-foot equivalent unit’. They are used to describe the size of a forty-foot container (= 2 TEU).
What are the terms and conditions for each Global Link Solutions service?
- The terms vary slightly based on the nature of the product, but they will be made clear by your Global Link Solutions representative in writing, at the beginning of a discussion.
What is vessel bunching?
- Vessel bunching means vessels arrive back-to-back or within a short time between each vessel. It is associated with many factors, such as port congestions, extra voyage time and other supply chain disruptions
What is meant by consignee?
- This person or entity is the shipment receiver and generally the owner of the shipped goods. Unless there are other instructions, the consignee is the entity or person legally required to be present to accept the shipment. A consignee in shipping is listed on the Bill of Lading (BOL)

What is phishing?
- Phishing is a fraudulent technique used by cybercriminals to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, or credit card details. These scammers often create fake websites that mimic legitimate ones to deceive users into thinking they are interacting with a trusted organization.
How can I protect myself from phishing scams?
- Be cautious with emails: Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments in emails from unknown or suspicious sources. Verify the authenticity of the email before taking any action.
- Check website URLs: Double-check the website’s URL before entering any personal or financial information. Ensure it starts with https:// for a secure connection and verify the website’s legitimacy independently if you’re uncertain.
- Update your software: Keep your operating system, web browsers, and security software up to date to minimise vulnerabilities that scammers could exploit.
How do I calculate the volume for my cargo?
- You can calculate your volumes based on your cargo’s height, weight, length and width.

What is dual-use cargo?
- Dual use items are items that are mainly used for commercial/civilian purposes but can be used also for military or enforcement purposes.
What is rolled cargo?
- Rolled cargo means the cargo is not loaded onto the vessel it is supposed to sail on because that vessel ran out of capacity.
What is container turnaround?
- Container turnaround is when a container is returned empty to a certain location so it can be used again.
What is the price range of Global Link Solution products?
- Because each customer has a need that differs in scale and geographic scope, as well as the product choice, the price will depend on the individual contract.
What is COO in shipping?
- COO is an abbreviation that refers to “change of origin”.
What does “country of origin” in shipping mean?
- The country of origin refers to the country of manufacture, production, or growth from where a product or article is being shipped
What is duty drawback?
- Duty drawback is the refund of customs duties, taxes and fees paid on imported items that are matched with exported or destroyed items. This refund can be part or all of the amount paid by the trader against the import duty, which includes customs duty, sales tax, and any other refundable fee imposed.
What is vessel dwell time?
- The vessel dwell time is the time that a vessel spends at port being secured, having cargo loaded or discharged, and other activities.
- A Container Excess Dwell Fee can come into place when containers exceed specific dwell time at the ports.
Who pays for FCA shipping?
- Under the Free Carrier, or FCA Incoterms® rule, the buyer is responsible for all freight costs.
What are Incoterms®?
- Incoterms ® or International Commercial Terms are the common language of international trade. Established by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), they are standard terms which are commonly incorporated into contracts for the trade of goods around the world.
- They help buyers and sellers avoid costly misunderstandings by clarifying who bears the obligations, costs and risks involved in the delivery of goods from sellers to buyers.
- Incoterms® provide clarity and predictability to businesses across the globe.
- The Incoterms® were last updated in 2019 and hence Incoterms® 2020 are the most current version of the terms. However, some buyers and sellers still prefer to use Incoterms® 2010.
- In total, there are 11 sets of Incoterms®, of which, 7 are applicable to all modes of transport, and these include:
- Ex Works (EXW)
- Free Carrier (FCA)
- Carriage Paid To (CPT)
- Carriage and Insurance Paid To (CIP)
- Delivered at Place (DAP)
- Delivered at Place Unloaded (DPU)
- Deliver Duty Paid (DDP
The other 4 cater to sea and inland waterway transport only, and include:
- Free Alongside Ship (FAS)
- Free on Board (FOB)
- Cost and Freight (CFR)
- Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF)

What is FCL?
- FCL is an abbreviation of “full container load”. It means goods from a single shipper occupy the entire container.
- The other main type of containerised transportation service is LCL, which is an abbreviation of “less-than-container load”.
